So much beauty can happen when someone listens TO you and believes IN you.

My name is Sarah Duckworth and I became a doctor of physical therapist out of the desire to help others restore or gain functional control and mobility. I began working with the smallest of humans (infants, toddlers and adolescents) with neurological and orthopedic impairments. I began to realize the best way to get my patients to work was by thinking outside the box and making activities enjoyable. Additionally, I observed that what some parents appreciated the most was being able to share the concerns and visions they had for their children to someone who was invested in the care of their children.

I then went on to expand my population to include adults with neurological, orthopedic and pelvic floor impairments and even obtained my personal trainer certification. I was attempting to utilize the same approach of listening and working with the patient to truly find the underlying reason for their impairment or pain. To be able to ideally do this, more time is often needed between the provider and the patient; definitely more time than what most insurance companies feel is necessary. I began to notice that ultimately it was the insurance companies who were guiding my treatment plans and deep down I never felt like I could give the patient the best they deserved. It was then that if I realized if I wanted to continue to listen to the patient and believe in them, I needed to remove all the other individuals/companies that were involved.

By removing insurance from the picture and placing the decision-making solely with the physical therapist and the patient with whom they are treating, the end result is a faster recovery time with improved satisfaction and reduced overall expense for all involved.
